Both of the articles in our pathology section address evolving challenges in the training of pathologists as well as presenting innovative solutions to overcome these hurdles.

Naugler et al addresses some of the challenges in transition to practice for pathologists. This important study identified fear of making mistakes as one of the most common concerns for newly qualified pathologists but, more importantly, it lists several recommendations that will help to mitigate and address this with a collaborative approach from both trainees and trainers.

Virtual or online teaching in health care education exploded during the COVID-19 pandemic. This trend has also affected the practice of pathology, which had to handle increasing clinical service demands compounded by disruptions in training and routine in- person case review sessions. In response, CAP-ACP embarked on the development and launch of virtual webinars, each one hour in length, that address potential educational shortfall. Soll and Dow examine the effectiveness of over 100 such virtual educational. Virtual teaching might impact beyond clinical competence and help to highlight and address greater issues of professional identity in pathology. This accentuates a flexible and scalable platform that can be leveraged to combat changes in the evolving practice of pathology.
