As we launch Volume 2 of Canadian Journal of Medical Specialties I am so pleased with, and proud of, the results from our first year. And looking forward to another great year.
Contributions to this journal have brought a Canadian perspective to our readership. And demonstrated exactly why we need Canadian content in order to thrive and grow. We have so much expertise and talent among our healthcare professionals and it is crucial that we find ways to share their research, experiences, and viewpoints from all over Canada.
The creation of this journal was a labour of love and the response it has been receiving makes every late night, all of the time spent on details, and the energy that went in to marketing it completely worthwhile.
We are in discussions with several specialty organizations that are interested in this concept. They are recognizing the importance of providing members with their own journal… rather than tagging on to the journal from another country. They are interested in having access to the research from other specialty groups – because none of us really operate in a silo, yet it is rare to have access to the journals of other specialties. And they are very excited about being able to publish their annual meeting abstracts in a searchable format and in a Canadian journal.
These, and some of the other benefits, will be the factors that help us bring more content to this journal. More specialists to our reader demographics. And more strength to Canadian medical publishing. The wheels turn slowly on decision making and onboarding, but the interest has been strong from a range of specialties and we look forward to being able to announce new participants in the future.
